Silver Mountain

There were parts of the way down that you had to face the rocks as you went down being sure to place your feet in the right places and hold on to the crevices with your hands as you made your way down. There is also a quite impressive sheer cliff wall on one side of the mountain that is often used by climbing clubs for rappelling. I have never been quite that adventurous, though, and the way I usually took down was not really that dangerous since there were plenty of foot falls and hand holds, and while steep it is not like you’re hanging over the edge of a great chasm. The whole descent takes about twenty minutes, maybe a little more if you’re enjoying the view on the way down. I have always preferred the valley floor to the mountain top anyway, and climbing down this particular mountain was always much more fun than taking the stairs to the top or enjoying the view once there. Silver Mountain is surrounded by miles and miles of maple forests reaching as high as they can with their branches upraised creating a cathedral canopy

We may have a destination in mind; the perfect job, the comfortable retirement, a life free of cancer – (13 years and counting!!), finishing that college degree, whatever your choice. The Lord may even have placed that goal in your heart and it may be his purpose for your life, but getting there is a process. There is only one who can see each and every stone or twist or challenge there may be between here and there and if we were able to see it all we may be too overwhelmed to even take that first step…

Where Faith Is Formed

There are times in our lives when things become crystal clear. We are able to recall events from years gone by, understand how they have brought us to where we are right now, and peer into the distance like an archer down the shaft of his arrow to […]

We Are All Prodigals

I have done a fair amount of hiking and bushwhacking on trails and beaches and side roads. I have traversed nearly all the trails in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. I have hiked Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore twice and canoed it once as well. The Boundary Waters in northern […]

What I Do Know

We never really know where life is going to take us…or when. I did not know that at 5 years old I would spend over a month in the hospital because of an infection in the bone marrow of my right foot. I did not know that at […]

Walk Humbly

We are not the one who holds the power or wields it. We are not the one who has the answers or provides the solution. We are not the one who can see from the beginning to the end and every point in between. We do not make the rules…but we can know the one who does.
